CCU to host International Gullah Geechee Conference

Coastal Carolina University’s Charles Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies will host the International Gullah Geechee and African Diaspora (IGGAD) 2024 Conference.

The conference focuses on oral Gullah Geechee language traditions.

Additionally, there will be art, fashion, and performances to celebrate the culture.

The conference begins on Thursday, Feb. 22 and runs through Saturday, Feb. 24.

It kicks off in Atlantic Beach with workshops, tours, and film screenings at the Atlantic Beach Community Center.

At 5 p.m., Veronica Gerald, the Joyner Institute founding director and CCU Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English, will give the keynote speech at the Johnson Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University.

Events will also be held in Downtown Conway.
